Here's Smashin' Transistors/Bancroft Records "editorial policy" for review material etc
Vinyl Records-WE LOVE VINYL! IT IS OUR PRIORITY! All vinyl, be it a 12inch, 10 inch, 7inch or some other weird size, WILL BE REVIEWED (even if we think it's a load of garbage). It's a rare breed out there doing it and a low profit margin to boot. If we had our way we'd only review vinyl but that's not feasable for everyone to put stuff out in the format.
CD-If you sent a solicited promo it will be reviewed. It may take us awhile but it will. If sent unsolicited we can't guarantee anything. We got A LOT of CD's sent here every week. Some get lost in the shuffle. A lot of them just flat out blow. If you sent us a CD and we haven't reviewed it yet don't send us countless emails asking if or when we are going to. That just pisses us off.
CD-R- This falls under the same rules as regular CD's. If it's a demo you sent to Bancroft Records unsolicited I MIGHT get around to checking it out. If you sent it for review the above applies as well.
Cassettes-It would be cool if people still sent out demo's on cassette. Hardly anyone does anymore (see "Cd-R") so we'd probably check it out simply on that principal (and besides...if it's crap we can tape over it. All we can do with sucky CD-R's is throw them away. I really don't like adding more to the landfills that I already have too)
Video/DVD-A couple of folks here have express interest in reviewing low budget, home made and underground films. So we will accept them if you have made something that you think might be of interest to us.
Zines/Books-Smashin' Transistors in a previous life was a print zine called "Scary Fire". I know people are still out there doing print zines. Send 'em in. We'd like to see them and give them exposure (as long as they don't stink and even if we think they do it'll give us ways to try out new and clever ways of saying "Man! This sucks"). Books are cool too. I read a lot and never know what to check out next when visiting a book store so if any books (vanity pressed or small/indie publishers) are sent our way is 100% right on.
In all promo situations PLEASE check out and actually read the site's content then ask yourself "Would this be something they would cover or be in to" before you pack it off and mail one out our way. You would believe how much stuff we get sent where we wonder "Why the hell was this even sent to us?!?!"
